NKFF

In case you missed it in the Oneonta Daily Star – NKFF received a grant! Yay! This is thanks to the Roxbury Arts Group and the New Kingston Valley Association, and it means this year we can do a few different and a few more things, like some live music, brining some more filmmakers, more food, etc.

If you haven’t already seen, check out the NKFF 2008 and NKFF 2009 archive pages which have a few images and the film listings from those years.

And, if you have a film, SUBMIT IT! Submissions are open until June 15, 2010 – and just $5 for shorts up to 50 minutes and $10 for features.

Plans are underway for another September NKFF in 2010, exact dates TBD.

Viva la NKFF!

We have posted the program for the fest this year, along with links to info and trailers about the films. (http://ow.ly/lFFZ) Start making plans to attend this year’s fest now! (We even have a couple filmmakers that will be joining us, and the Andrea Sadler of The Sacred Run is looking to bring a native American elder to start the festival with a special ceremony. The leaves have just begun to start changing, so we expect some brilliant yellows, oranges and reds by the 19th.  Bekah is going to make some incredible gourmet popcorn salts and sauces. The moon will be new. The people will be great. The porto-potty will have Purell.

Also, please note that the barn is not heated, and the average low on Sept. 19th around here is 45 Fahrenheit, so please plan to bring some cozy warm clothes and/or blankets for the later evening hours. Viva la NKFF2009!

So we’ve been viewing films and viewing films and eating, and viewing more films. (Have you seen the extensive list of our submissions this year? This is making for some TOUGH decisions… NKFF 2009 is truly looking to be an International Film Festival!) And we have found there were far too many hours of great films that we want to share with our community than we originally had time for… Therefore, we are extending the hours of the festival from 4-11pm to 1-11 pm on Saturday, September 19th, 2009. Even so, we are still not going to have time to play even more that we would like to play. Anyway, we’ll have to deal with them later.

We plan to finalize a program/schedule in the next week or so… meanwhile, start planning for an earlier start!

Of course, a great thing to do in New Kingston is get your passport renewed or applied for the first time! Our post office boasts not only the shortest lines in the known universe, but also the friendliest post-people, a comfy sofa, snacks on Fridays, toys for kids, and a full on book exchange! Plus, you can do everything you need to do to get your passport on, including photos. Bring your birth certificate, expired passport, driver’s license, marriage license or whatever you need, and get it done the New Kingston way!

The date is set – September 19th, 2009. Not sure on times, etc. yet. And it *may* be possible that the fest will be on Sept 18/19th evenings (both) instead of a 1 longer day. Not sure yet, and will determine that based on the films that are screened.

It appears that on average at that time of year, the high temps are in the low 60′s and lows in the 40′s, and the sun sets around 7:30-8:00 p.m. FYI

You know, it’s not all about the NKFF. People keep saying, it’s all about the NKFF, it’s all about the NKFF. But really, there is more to life than just the NKFF. For example, there’s just plain ole NK, New Kingston, New York. Or the surrounding region. And keeping that in mind, we’d like the NKFF blog and Twitter presence to be more than just about the NKFF – but to be a public service to New Kingston and the surrounding areas.

To that end you may start seeing posts here about interesting communities (like Fleischmanns – our favorite Mexican food center!), hot spots (Plattekill skiing!), restaurants, things to do, etc…as well as tweets on the NKFF Twitter account with news updates and important things (like the flood warning notice I just posted there!)

Meanwhile, we’ll also post updates on the fest itself as it progresses.

Ok, as recently tweeted on our Twitter account, we have confirmed the venue for NKFF 2009, and submissions are starting to come in (from as far away as Nebraska and Kyrgyzstan so far!) But next we need to really get the word out to filmmakers to get submissions for this year’s NKFF 2009! We also added some more stray photos from the NKFF 2008. So please send emails, tweets, facebookies, snails, mails, bleeps blurps and blurbs out to anyone and everyone who’d like to submit a short or feature for NKFF 2009!

We are looking to confirm a venue for last weekend in September or first in October, 2009! Submissions are open. We have a new Twitter account. Clark is on the SAG Awards nominating committee, which is bringing in quite a fine selection of films. If only they were all submissions for NKFF 2009!
