Ok, here’s the rundown for #NKFF11

1) Location UPDATE:

Food and Music in the barn (1 mile south of New Kingston on County Route 6 near Crawford Road);
DRIVE-IN FILMS from your car in the field behind the Presbyterian Church @ 8:15/8:30

2) Time: 6 p.m. for food and music, 8:30 p.m. -12:30 a.m. for films
3) Cost: Admission to the festival is free with suggested $5 donation. There is no charge for parking, etc.
4) Food: ChaChaHut will be selling selected items from their special NKFF BBQ menu as well as preparing special seasonings for the popcorn (also for sale).
5) Music: Serena Jost and Robin Aigner will be playing between 6 and 8 p.m.
6) Films: Please see the program to see which films you’d like to catch. You can click on most of them to see more info and view trailers.

IF the films are shown in the field, we’ll have FM transmission so you can watch and listen from the comfort of your vehicle. (We’ll let you know the channel at the event.)
To minimize distractions from headlights, please do not arrive or leave the fest during the screening of a film – but rather wait until the breaks.

WHAT YOU MAY WANT TO BRING:

money for delicious BBQ and vegetarian sides, lemonade, water, popcorn; plus your generous donation
Flashlight or headlamp!!
rain gear & boots (up to 1.2 inches of rain in forecast)
clothing for both warm and cool weather (low of 66 F forecast)
blanket and/or seat cushion (metal chairs provided)
vehicle with FM radio or some sort of portable FM radio

#NKFF11 Alert!

NOTE: No tickets are required for NKFF11! There will be a donation can at the event to graciously accept your generous donations!

The filmmakers have been notified, and the pre-designed program has been wiki-leaked! Most films include a hyperlink to the film’s web site where you can read about the film and/or view a trailer.

In other news, our accommodations page has been updated with several discounts and specials for #NKFF11 attendees – AND we have gotten permission for you to pitch a tent at the #NKFF11 site and stay the night!

Also, keep checking the NKFF website for more details for the August 6-7 event as they come in! The latest is that we have confirmed not only dinner with BBQ from the Cha Cha Hut at 6 pm – but also music from Serena Jost and Robin Aigner before the films begin at sundown on August 6th.

NKFF 2011 In the Works!

NKFF 2011* in the works!

Location: **in the field behind the Presbyterian church in New Kingston (5177 County Route 6, New Kingston, NY 12459)

Saturday August 6: 6 pm dinner by ChaCha Hut BBQ + music; films begin at sundown. sit out under the stars or enjoy FM transmission from your car.
Sunday August 7: 10am-12pm (same location.) Meet the Filmmakers

**Rain location for both events will be one mile south of the hamlet of New Kingston in the big red barn at 28 Crawford Road, New Kinsgton, NY 12459.

We are combing through over 40 submissions from all over the US, Canada, Spain, Brazil, The Phillipines, and Chilé, and the 2011 NKFF Jury will be deciding which films make the final cut, by July 1, 2011.

New NKFF Additions for 2011

Not only do we have a new baby in the NKFF family, we also have some new features in 2011 to share with you:

Local films (Delaware County): submit for free, and we’ll have a featured local film portion of the fest.

Filmmaker Stipends: we’ll be offering some stipends to help bring filmmakers to the festival!

NKFF has been awarded an NYSCA grant via the Roxbury Arts Group for the 3rd New Kingston Film Festival, tentatively scheduled for the weekend of August 5-7th, 2011.

Submissions are open – and this year the submissions will be reviewed by a jury. You can see the bios and details on the NKFF wiki.

NKFF 2010 – Grant approved, Submissions Open!

In case you missed it in the Oneonta Daily Star – NKFF received a grant! Yay! This is thanks to the Roxbury Arts Group and the New Kingston Valley Association, and it means this year we can do a few different and a few more things, like some live music, brining some more filmmakers, more food, etc.

If you haven’t already seen, check out the NKFF 2008 and NKFF 2009 archive pages which have a few images and the film listings from those years.

And, if you have a film, SUBMIT IT! Submissions are open until June 15, 2010 – and just $5 for shorts up to 50 minutes and $10 for features.

Plans are underway for another September NKFF in 2010, exact dates TBD.

Some places to eat en route…

Thought you might like a listing of some of our favorite places to grab grub around here on your way to the NKFF2009… just save room for delicious gourmet popcorn and food from Heaven.

Coming up Route 28 from NYC?
Stop at Bread Alone on route 28 just before the village of Boiceville. Great variety of delicious breads, croissants, pastries, pies, etc…

Margaretville area
Pakatakan Farmer’s Market (aka the Round Barn) – Route 30 about 4 miles north of Margaretville: all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies, the world’s best sweet sugary waffles with chocolate and whipped cream, live music, pastries, baked goods, local cheeses, meats, maple products, jams, honey, mustards, crafts, pottery, sandwiches, etc. Yeah. Closes at 2 p.m.!

Harry and the Hippie Chick – delicious sandwiches, coffees, salads, etc… with a New York/Puerto Rican flavor.

Bovina

Thankfully, Heaven on Main Street is providing food for NKFF 2009, because otherwise, they’ll be closed for two weeks for renovation! But don’t fret, the adorable historical village of Bovina Center also has Russell’s – where Bea serves up delicious sandwiches, delectible cakes and brownies (which will also be at the fest), ice cream, and features boatloads of local goods such as beef, cheese, crafts, bike parts and supplies, etc. Don’t worry, they are the only two places in town to stop, so you can’t miss them!

Andes

The Andes Hotel is a great place to hang out – especially if it’s a sunny afternoon and you get a spot on the porch. It has a combination of delicious and medium/high priced gourmet brunches, lunches and dinners, as well as a great selection of beers and nice lower priced bar food menu that puts most bar menus to shame. Woody’s, (formerly Cassies) is quite a different experience, it’s more like your locals’ diner that features good old fashioned inexpensive all American breakfast and lunches. (Note, we haven’t checked out the Andel Inn yet… We got all excited when we heard it was going to be Indian food, and were still excited when we heard it was going to be sushi, and then a lot less when we heard it was going to be a steak house. But I see from their menu that they do have a couple Indian-style dishes!)

Delhi

The Crossroads Cafe is one of our regular pit stops for fresh and healthy lunches. The Quarter Moon Cafe also features excellent gourmet fare for a few pennies more – and right next door is a great place to buy some produce or local cheese and goods at Good Cheap Food (or Good Food as we like to call it) AND has a decent bar in the back (call to see if open first), SOL bar.
